The DHS enforcement division, ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) announced today that it had arrested an Ohio immigration attorney and an associate on charges of marriage fraud.According to the ICE Press Release, Lilian Asante, the lawyer, and Kwadwo Asante, a businessman, are alleged to have entered into separate marriages with two US citizens in order to obtain citizenship. The pair currently live together.
Marriage fraud carries a penalty of up to a $250,000 and/or five years imprisonment.
Whoa!! well on the bright side she was not charged with setting up marriages for other people. Hopefully a voluntary departure to her home country will be the best lesson to all.
